Annemarie Durbin

Annemarie has over 30 years of international business and banking experience across Asia, Africa and the Middle East with ANZ and then Standard Chartered Bank. This included being CEO and Executive Director of a FTSE 250 equivalent publicly listed bank and latterly a member of the Group Executive Committee. Annemarie has operated in and around boards for the last 16 years in both Executive and Non-Executive capacities.

 

She started her career as a barrister and solicitor in New Zealand and the UK before moving into banking. In addition to executive coaching, Annemarie has a portfolio of Chair and Non-Executive board roles, is a business mentor and an accredited mediator.

Annemarie takes a client centred approach and has a talent for sensing meaning beyond the spoken words. She uses her engaged, yet calm, analytical, and empathic style along with her business acumen to assist clients to identify and focus on the issues that are most important to them.

 

Annemarie focuses on her clients’ strengths and uses these as a catalyst for change and personal development. She has a passion for understanding the interpersonal dynamics that enable individuals and teams to achieve peak performance on a consistent and sustained basis. Annemarie has a Masters and is accredited as an executive coach by Ashridge Business School and is a Gallup certified strengths coach.

Her career culminated in being an ExCo member of Standard Chartered PLC, a FTSE 30 company. Other roles included being CEO and Executive Director of a listed bank in Thailand where she led the integration of two banks to form one culturally cohesive, highly profitable organisation CEO of the bank in the Philippines and various retail, commercial and institutional banking roles across Europe, Africa and Asia. She has also led several global functions including corporate communications, investor relations, real estate, third party management, internal audit, security, business continuity and crisis management, with accountability for multi billion annual budgets. During her career, she specialised in transforming businesses and functions leading culturally diverse teams.

 

Annemarie was also the executive sponsor of the company’s Diversity and Inclusion programme and Living with HIV education initiative. Annemarie is presently Chair Designate at Yorkshire Building Society and Remco Chair on the Boards of Petershill Partners plc and Persimmon plc. Previously, she was Remco Chair on the Boards of WHSmith plc and Santander UK plc, and Board Chair of Cater Allen Private Bank.

Annemarie sees herself as a global citizen with New Zealand roots. She is married with four children and four grandchildren and enjoys a wide range of outdoor pursuits, in particular running, hiking, swimming, tennis and cycling.
