Martin Houston

Martin’s experience across the energy sector spans 4 decades and over 40 countries. He is Co-Founder and Vice-Chairman of Tellurian Inc, a global natural gas business and has a portfolio of NED roles in healthcare, exploration and production and liquefied natural gas, plus senior advisory roles in energy banking, energy renewables and strategic consultancy.

Whilst his executive career was exclusively in the energy industry he’s held non-executive roles in companies quoted on the FTSE, Saudi Exchange, Nasdaq and NYSE America.

Martin draws on his executive experience to help individuals shape their own outcomes.  His guiding stars are leadership, team selection and performance management. He encourages his clients to be honest with themselves about their career goals, as well as how they see their choices and actions delivering more holistic personal ambitions, which can often be overlooked. His context is that careers and lives are marathons, not sprints, but are also finite.

Martin earned a BSc in geology from Newcastle University and an MSc in petroleum geology from Imperial College, London. He began his career as an offshore wellsite geologist in the South China Sea. He rose from an entry level graduate to Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of BG Group plc before retiring in 2014.

He has been a member of numerous Boards over the last three decades and recently stepped down as Chair of EnQuest plc, a FTSE listed oil and gas company. He is also Vice-Chairman of Tellurian Inc, a company he co-founded in 2016.

He is a Non-Executive Director of BUPA Arabia, a healthcare company based in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and of CC Energy, a private oil and gas company.

Martin is a Fellow of the Geological Society of London, is on the Advisory Board of the Global Energy Policy unit at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs in New York and the International Advisory Board of Newcastle University. He is an invited member of the National Petroleum Council of the United States.

Martin has been married to Jane for over 40 years and they have two daughters and a grandchild on the way. He lives in the US but also spends time in the UK and Greece. He is an avid motorcyclist, a keen golfer and is in the final stages of producing, with composer Nishat Khan, a vibrant new operatic work entitled “Taj Mahal – India’s Greatest Love Story”.
