Rt. Hon. Sir Hugh Robertson KCMG DL

Rt. Hon. Sir Hugh Robertson is Chair of Birmingham International Airport, an Independent Non-Executive at Deloitte, where he sits on their UK, European and Global Advisory Boards, and a Member of The International Olympic Committee. He was previously the Chair of The British Olympic Association, an organisation that he led through the Rio 2016, Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Summer Olympic Games, during which Team GB delivered a series of record medal hauls and over 200 Olympic medals in total. He was also Chair of Camelot, the operator of the National Lottery from 2018-2023, a period when sales increased from £6.9-£8.3bn.

He is currently an independent member of the House of Lords Appointments Committee (HOLAC) and chaired the Sports Honours Committee for the maximum six year term from 2017-2024.

Earlier in his career, he was a Kent Member of Parliament from 2001-2015 and a government Minister as, first, The Minister for the London Olympic and Paralympic Games from 2010-2013, an event widely described as the finest Olympic Games of modern times. He was, subsequently, The Minister of State at The Foreign and Commonwealth Office from 2013 onwards. During this time, he held Ministerial responsibility for the Syria Peace talks, US Secretary of State John Kerry’s Middle East Peace Process and the Iran nuclear negotiations.

He was previously an investment manager at Schroder Investment Management and an army officer seeing active service in Northern Ireland, with the UN in Cyprus, during the First Gulf War and with the UN during the siege of Sarajevo.

He has been a Gentleman at Arms since 2015 and was on parade at both the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the Coronation of HM King Charles III and HM Queen Camilla. He was appointed as Vice Lord Lieutenant of Kent on 2 January 2025.
